People First Housing Association

A member of the Manchester Housing Providers Partnership, working together to deliver better housing outcomes across the city.

People First Housing Association

People First Housing Association is a small housing association based in Hulme, south Manchester. It was set up in 1993 as part of the Hulme regeneration programme. We began managing homes in April 1995 and became a registered housing association in January 1996.
Our aim is to improve lives by providing safe, good-quality homes at social rent and helping to build a neighbourhood people can be proud of. We own and manage 275 homes in Hulme, including flats and houses with one to five bedrooms for different household needs.

Our Manchester presence

We have also provided person-centred support services to residents across Manchester for over 20 years. Our work has helped residents stay in their homes, manage their money, and get the services they need at the right time. Our values are simple: stay local, listen, and put tenants first. A voluntary Board of Management leads the organisation, and we shape services with tenants and the local community. This helps us keep services practical, reduce empty homes, and support people to keep their tenancy in an area where housing demand is high.

Supporting our communities

We support people to live independently, avoid eviction, and deal with rent, repairs and utility issues. We help residents increase their income by supporting benefit claims and gathering evidence for assessments. We also offer budgeting support, debt advice, repayment planning, and help to access grants and trust funds. When people face barriers such as poor health, low confidence or cognitive difficulties, we provide practical help with calls, letters and forms. We also help people access healthcare, coordinate support from different services, and reduce isolation. Extra support can be provided during difficult times, such as leaving hospital, bereavement, mental health crises, or major life changes and transitions.
