Great Places Housing Group

A profit-for-purpose organisation making a positive difference to the lives of residents and communities across Manchester.

About Great Places

Great Places Housing Group is a profit-for-purpose organisation, here to make a positive difference to the lives of the people who live in our homes. Our vision is Great Homes, Great Communities, Great People; and we reinvest a significant part of our surplus into projects and services that help our customers thrive and strengthen the communities we’re proud to be part of.

Our portfolio includes homes for social and affordable rent, shared ownership for people taking their first step on to the property ladder, market rent and sale, and supported housing that promotes independence and wellbeing.

Our Manchester presence

From our Didsbury office we deliver housing services across Manchester, where we own and manage over 3,400 homes. This includes our anchor neighbourhood of Northmoor in Longsight; homes delivered through the regeneration of Ancoats and New Islington, including the transformation of the iconic Ancoats Dispensary; our new affordable housing development at Wiremill Court; and our upcoming LGBTQ+ extra care development at Russell Road in Whalley Range, the first of its kind.

Supporting our communities

Beyond core landlord services, Great Places takes a community-first approach in Manchester, working with local partners to help customers sustain tenancies, improve wellbeing and access opportunities. This includes employment and skills support, help with the cost of living, and investment in initiatives shaped by local priorities, all aimed at building resilient neighbourhoods and stronger customer connections. We also lead GM Housing First and, through our Independence and Wellbeing team, deliver the Docherty Project in Rusholme, a specialist alcohol harm-reduction service supporting customers with experience of long-term homelessness.

To help address the housing crisis, we are delivering 597 affordable new homes across Manchester by March 2028, with a further pipeline of around 149 homes planned by March 2029.
